The upcoming LRD illustrations will be on the boxer rebellion in the 1900s. These are the cover and inside illustration. Since it's a chinese story, i've used chinese ink brush on rice paper. You can pick up the published LRD newspaper on 29th June at some primary schools when they reopen again.

LRD ILLUSTRATION PROCESS
Here is the process from idea sketches to final illustration. First, I collect all the images and fact I need regarding the article from the internet. After that, I come up with many small thumbnails (5-20). Then scan one that I like best. I trace the thumbnail with a photoshop brush, improving the drawing as I go along, also checking the inverted image. I then email it to the client. When it is approved by the client, I'd then print it out and trace with with a brush using a lightbox. The drawing is scanned in high resolution, cleaned up and then coloured in photoshop. And it's done!

Little Red Dot illustrations for SPH. The last few illustrations have been fun. In these few rounds I attempted to shift the style of illustration from the previous style they had been using. The latest style uses brush and ink strokes and coloured/textured in photoshop. The fun part, like the previous rounds, was to dramatise the story with views that can only be achieved through illustrations. The stories are not current stories but a retelling of events that actually happened in history. This newspaper can be picked up at primary schools in singapore.
