How I do diary comics. And why.

I've been recording my daily life experiences for a few years now and I'm still finding new ways (and also easier, more relaxing, more effective ways) of capturing daily life as comics. In the last few months, having a jumble tumble of things to do and think about every week, I've been using prompts for each comic panel. This allows me to capture a wider range of things.

I enjoy doing these diary comics in the morning before work, while my mind is still fresh. Sometimes, if I've only 20 minutes, I do a really rough loose one in a notebook. And sometimes, when I want to take more time, I'd do a clearer one in my sketchbook, like the one here. Anyways, I remind myself that it's not about doing it perfectly. It's about recording stories before they are forgotten. There are new events and stories crowding into my mind every day.

Doing these diaries does help me slow down, organise my thoughts and emotions, and focus my thoughts on things that are helpful rather than stressful or fearful.

And this is the present template I've been using for this month. The items can be moved around or swapped with other types of prompts. I'm constantly changing it around to see how I can do it in more amusing ways. If you'd like to try something similar, I've done a Youtube video on how I do these dairy comics HERE.
