What do I say with art?

Another comic diary with the prompts I did in this video. I prepared this for a comics workshop recently. It was a short workshop so I kept it simple by getting them to use only black, white and one colour pencil.

While doing this, one thing came to mind : Art can be seen a language or a mode of communication. Learning to draw well is like getting all that english grammar and structures right. After a learning it to a certain level, we can use english to ask for things, tell stories, communicate, change our worlds. After being able to draw well enough that we can communicate things clear enough, the next step would be, what do we want to say?

We could just keep practicing the art and learn to draw and paint better, and that would be like polishing up the vocabulary, annunciation, things like that, but I'd still keep coming back to "what do I want to say with it?"

I think I've not fully explored what it can be used to communicate. And not every thing I can say with it will be meaningful to me, and having it be meaningful is important to me. One good use of it is still to talk about my own life stories. Addressed to my family, friends and myself. It captures how we were at this moment in time, how we relate to each other, how we lived. It comes and goes so quickly. And whatever I capture, good or bad events, we can learn from it. I wonder what else I want to say with art? It will be different for everyone.
